Heather Mallak, Founder and Creative Director of Public Studio, returned to school as a non-traditional student to earn a second degree, a Bachelor of Science in interactive media. She was one of a handful of women in her program and began her first job in the tech industry in 2008 as Product Manager at podcast company, Wizzard Media. As a lifelong learner, she has participated in physical pixel classes at Hack Pittsburgh, rapid prototyping trainings at Tech Shop, served as creative-in-residence at AlphaLab Gear, participated in Work Hard’s Academy PGH full stack web dev bootcamp and attended many minority and women-owned business building workshops and trainings. These roles have led her to work alongside a diverse set of collaborators including developers, architects, design thinkers, inventors, and programmers.

During the past two decades, Public Studio has served as a strategic partner to some of the most notable regional universities, nonprofits, museums, community development organizations, innovators, and libraries. Drawing on Heather’s training in graphic design and interactive media, select key roles have included project management, event production, workshops/training, experience design, digital storytelling, and developing visual communications that reach a variety of stakeholders.
